Songs of Summer: Meet the Songwriters

Step into the creative minds of NAMT Festival Alumni: Jacinta Clusellas, Andrea Daly, Robi Hager, Martin Storrow and Melvin Tunstall III. Each of these writers has paved their own paths, captivating audiences with their unique voices. Their work gives us a glimpse into the ever-evolving world of musical theatre.

Get to know a little more about these fabulous writers and join us at Joe’s Pub on July 31st!


 

 

Jacinta Clusellas is a composer, singer-songwriter and guitarist based in New York City. Originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, Jacinta brings together South American folklore, jazz and chamber music, in the context of songs influenced by poems, literature and nature from South America.

Her bilingual musical Azul (Book by Melis Aker and Tatiana Pandiani, Music by Jacinta Clusellas, Lyrics by Jacinta Clusellas, Tatiana Pandiani and Melis Aker) appeared in the 33rd Annual Festival of New Musicals. 

 

 


 

 

Andrea Daly is a New York-based composer, writer and vocalist. Andrea is composing the score for the Broadway adaptation of Silver Linings Playbook, with Rick Elice (book) and Sara Cooper (lyrics). She wrote music, book and lyrics for the new original musical NEXT, commissioned by Barbara Whitman Productions and Grove Entertainment, collaborating with Grammy-winning producer Dominic Fallacaro (co-music/orchestrations).

 

 

Andrea’s first musical Legendale (with book and lyrics by Jeff Bienstock) appeared in the 27th Annual Festival of New Musicals.

Robi is a Mexican-American musical theatre writer and performer living in Philadelphia. His musical Little Duende was one of two musicals accepted for the 2021 NMTC at The O’Neill Center prior to the 33rd Annual Festival of New Musicals. Robi returned to The O’Neill Center the following year for their 2022 NMTC, this time with his other musical Siluetas (with book and lyrics by Erlina Ortiz), inspired by the art of Ana Mendieta.

His musical Little Duende (with book and lyrics by Georgina Escobar) appeared in the 33rd Annual Festival of New Musicals.

 

 


 

 

 

Martin Storrow believes that a story can change everything. A prolific writer and songwriter, Martin has released six records and a collection of poems, and has played more than a thousand concerts across the US and in Africa, Australia and the Middle East. His original music has been featured in film and television shows on NBC, Starz and Netflix. Martin lives in New York City with his wife and their 18-month-old daughter.

Martin’s first musical, King of Pangaea, appeared in the 34th Annual Festival of New Musicals.

Melvin Tunstall III is an Off-Broadway Alliance Award-winning playwright for penning Polkadots: the Cool Kids Musical. Seen in productions worldwide, the show also took home the Naledi Award, South Africa’s equivalent to the Tony Award. A proud participant in the Yale Institute for Musical Theatre, Melvin was part of the 2023 class at the Johnny Mercer Writers Grove at Goodspeed. Melvin resides in New York City, where he is currently working on a new musical about Tony-winning Broadway choreographer Henry Letang and several other projects that he must keep under wraps for the time being — but stay tuned! Melvin is represented by William Morris Endeavor.

 

 

Melvin’s musical Senior Class (with music by Greg Borowsky) appeared in the 33rd Annual Festival of New Musicals.
