The National Alliance for Musical Theatre (NAMT) proudly introduces two distinctive programs designed to support and develop the next generation of leaders in musical theatre. Our “Festival Emerging Artists Programs” provide unparalleled opportunities for early to mid-career professionals to gain hands-on experience and foster their growth in the musical theatre industry. Below, you will find an outline of our two key programs: the Festival Line Producer Residency and the Festival Creative Assistantship.


Festival Line Producer Residency
For Emerging Leaders in Musical Theatre

Program Overview

The Festival Line Producer Residency offers early to mid-career professionals an exceptional opportunity to immerse themselves in the production aspects of new musical development. Reporting to the NAMT New Works Director, Festival Producers and General Manager, participants will play a crucial role in the 36th Annual Festival of New Musicals, taking place on October 24-25, 2024.

Program Goals

  • Front Row Experience: Gain first-hand exposure to the production process of new musicals.
  • Skill Development: Learn best practices in logistical and administrative management.
  • Networking Opportunities: Engage with industry leaders at NAMT Fall Conference panels and other networking events.
  • Support and Mentorship: Receive guidance from seasoned professionals and gain a one-year complimentary NAMT membership.

Festival Creative Assistantship
For Emerging Leaders in Musical Theatre

Program Overview

The Festival Creative Assistantship offers early-career professionals from underrepresented groups a unique opportunity to participate as departmental assistants in the development of new musicals. This program, a reimagining of the NAMT Festival Observership, is now in its seventh year and focuses on three categories: Directing, Script and Music.

Program Goals

  • Diverse Exposure: Work closely with experienced directors, writers and music directors.
  • First-Hand Experience: Gain insights into the new musical development process.
  • Networking and Learning: Attend select NAMT Fall Conference panels and network with industry leaders.
  • Professional Development: Be present for all rehearsals, sound checks and presentations.
