This event is for participants of the Musical Theater Songwriting Challenge for High School Students

Featuring the Writers of Broadway’s
How to Dance in Ohio
Rebekah Greer Melocik & Jacob Yandura

Join Rebekah Greer Melocik and Jacob Yandura for an interactive workshop on how to build a song by crafting a clear character. How does my character talk? How do they sound? What makes them tick? What lyrical phrases and melodic patterns best represent who they are? Rebekah and Jacob will use songs from How to Dance in Ohio as examples. Students will walk away from this session with a clearer sense of how their character(s) express themselves through Music & Lyrics.

This program is part workshop, part info session. In addition to an in-depth exploration of songwriting in musical theatre through the lens of character, NAMT staff will offer a detailed walk-through of the application process for the Musical Theater Songwriting Challenge. Participants are encouraged to jump in, ask questions and incorporate what they learn into their Songwriting Challenge submission.

Can’t make it to the scheduled time? No problem! A recording of this webinar will be made available on the NAMT website.
