About our Staff
BETSY KING MILITELLO (Executive Director) came to NAMT in August of 2011 from Outward Bound where she was Vice President of Development, responsible for an $8M annual fundraising goal. Prior organizations in which she served in non-profit administration and fundraising leadership roles include Hunter College, the NYU Child Study Center, Cooper Union and the Big Apple Circus, and she has also taught at Marymount Manhattan College as an Adjunct Professor in Non-profit Management. Following completion of her undergraduate degree at Harvard, she began her career in advertising; after receiving her Master’s degree in Public and Private Management (MPPM) from the Yale School of Management (with additional coursework in administration at the Yale School of Drama), she worked as a management consultant for Fortune 100 companies prior to moving to the non-profit sector. She also has theatre production experience, primarily in stage management and lighting, in both professional and volunteer musical theatre and opera organizations including Glimmerglass Opera and the Blue Hill Troupe.
ADAM GROSSWIRTH (Membership Director) has been NAMT’s Membership Director since 2008, acting as a liaison to NAMT’s 200 members, tending to their customer service needs and traveling to theatres across the country. He is responsible for planning, implementing and maintaining NAMT’s many member services, programs and benefits, including two annual conferences, surveys, publications, member discounts and the website. Adam previously spent ten years as a stage manager, during which time he worked on many Broadway, Off-Broadway, regional and developmental productions, including Spring Awakening, Zanna Don’t!,Here Lies Jenny, The Big Time, Xanadu, Aida, The Green Bird, Serenade, The Secret Narrative of the Phone Book and Bright Lights Big City, and spent three seasons as the Stage Management Supervisor at the Williamstown Theatre Festival under the artistic direction of Roger Rees. Adam is a native New Yorker and a graduate of Tufts University.
BRANDEN HULDEEN (New Works Director and Festival Producing Director) joined the National Alliance for Musical Theatre in February of 2008. He produces the Festival of New Musicals, New Works Summits, Writers Roundtables and additional NAMT concerts; manages the National Fund for New Musicals and Writers Residency Grants; and oversees all of the New Works and Festival programs for NAMT. Prior to NAMT, Branden was Education Associate at Theatre Development Fund, Associate Editor of Play by Play Theatre Magazine By and For Teens, and House Manager at the Vineyard Theatre. From 2001 until 2008, Branden was part of the New Plays for Young Audiences Series at NYU in various positions including producer of the 2008 season. At NYMF, he was the Associate Producer of Kingdom (Audience Favorite Award) and Associate Producer and General Manager of Maccabeat!. Branden was the Line Producer for Ian August’s Missing Celia Rose and Alena Smith’s The Sacrifices for the Summer Play Festival. He is a graduate of the Commercial Theatre Institute’s 3-day program, received a B.S. in Educational Theatre and a M.A. in Performing Arts Administration (Kurtz Scholarship Award Recipient for Excellence in Performing Arts Administration), both from New York University, where he also worked as the Associate Production Manager and worked on over 50 productions. Branden is a member of the Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the America and is a freelance dramaturg focusing on new works.
JEN WHITTON (Development Assistant) joined the NAMT staff in 2013 after two years coordinating post production elements for a large advertising agency. She studied theater arts at SUNY New Paltz and arts administration at Indiana University, working in box office and house management in both locations. Jen moved to the city to intern with Roundabout Theatre Company in Special Events, then joined the staff of Jaradoa Theater, where she performed a variety of duties as Management Associate. She was born and raised in northern New York.
NICK ABBOTT (Office Coordinator) is a recent graduate of the BFA Musical Theatre program at Ball State University and is thrilled to be working with NAMT! He was born and raised in Indiana, and came to NYC on the train in June, 2014. While in college he was an elephant handler, a reformed gambler and a music man. In addition to performing, he took part in creating the first bi-annual Discovery New Musical Theatre Festival at BSU, which took place this summer to great success. He recently interned for Center Ring Theatricals, the commercial producing arm behind 2012 Festival of New Musicals show, The Circus in Winter.
